If you love jazz saxophone, you do not want to miss this concert at Westport Arts Center, Sunday, January 26, 3:00pm – 5:00pm. Admission is $25, for members it is $22.
This is a tribute to some of the greatest jazz saxophonists of our time, during an era when jazz was still arguably a part of our mainstream popular culture.
Sidney Bechet, Coleman Hawkins, Johnny Hodges, Ben Webster, Lester Young, Don Byas, Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon, Paul Desmond, Sonny Stitt, Gene Ammons, Hank Mobley, John Coltrane, Stan Getz, Gerry Mulligan, Cannonball Adderley, Sonny Rollins. Each one of these saxophone giants have made a unique contribution to the world of jazz.
The musicians:
Chris Coogan – piano  You will surely enjoy hearing Chris in this mainstream jazz setting. His inventive, lush, spontaneous style really shines in this context.
John Mobilio – bass  John brings a lyricism to his bass playing – fresh and full of energy – a delight to behold.
Jim Royle – drums  A jazz drummer must “swing”, and Jim does exactly that! His sensitivity and ability to create highly contrasting moments add dimension and drama to the group.
Jim Clark – saxophones  Paying tribute to these sax masters requires a level of deftness, attention to detail, and virtuosity, which Jim brings, along with a contagious passion for jazz.
Update:Tickets to the concert are $25 for adults, $10 for students with a valid I.D., and are available in advance at (203) 222-7070 and www.westportartscenter.org, or at the door 30 minutes prior to the start of the performance.
